Extinction with a Side of Coffee | One-Hundred-Word Story

This is the second installment in The Inconvenient Apocalypse. If you missed the cliffhanger in part one, you can catch up on Off Script first!

Centara is such a beautiful planet, but Sarah doesn’t know how she got there. Her alien concierge, Bernie, explains. “You’ve been brought to the future, to a world once known as Earth. My species took over after humanoids became consumed by something called social media.” Sarah was shocked: “The people of earth are extinct, because they talked about themselves too much?” “Affirmative,” said Bernie, in an other-worldly monotone. “Centarians call it a social validation feedback loop.” The last surviving earthling sat speechless, but she really, really needed her breakfast coffee, bagel, and banana. Thankfully, Starbucks and Walmart survived the apocalypse.

Love it! Thank goodness for Wal-Mart and Starbucks! It didn’t surprise me that social media became the reason for extinction! The header photo is perfect, too! How fun, David! I enjoyed this!

Thanks, Karla. Writing micro fiction is my latest favorite thing to do—other than writing Christian devotionals.

McDonald’s would have survived too, but Centarians don’t like fast food.
