Order Up | One-Hundred-Word Story

Jason walks into a garden center, pretending to be a bonsai artist. The con works. He’s actually a former fast-talking line cook, and waiting for the miniature plants to grow a fraction of an inch drives him nuts. He longs to prune them like he’s flipping pancakes. His big opportunity comes when someone orders one-hundred bonsai for a Japanese themed wedding. A truck load of pre-bonsai junipers arrives, and Jason prunes them out at three minutes a piece! He makes the local news, which is good for business, but bad for a fugitive cook. The federal agent smiles: “Order up!”
