The Squeegee Method: One-Hundred-Word Story

Steve was an out-of-work window washer who had an epiphany. While watching his daughter’s high school marching band, he noticed the drum major’s arm go down, left, right, up just like a window washer’s! Steve was no musician, but he was quite terribly desperate. One tuxedo and a fake music degree later, he interviewed for a conductor’s job with a symphony orchestra. “We’re impressed with your credentials, but want to see you conduct,” they said. Steve stood nervously in front of the Altoona Philharmonic. Down, left, right, up they followed- until he stopped to rewet his baton with sudsy water.

Fascinating. And frightening. And fun. Thanks for kicking off my day with some curiosity and wonder.
