They first met one morning at a local bakery. Each came for their favorite half-moon cookies, but left as friends. Bill moved away, but he and Jill kept in touch. One morning, when she came for cookies, a photo of him, looking surprised, was taped to a toothpick in the middle of the half-moons. She really needed the laugh, but how did he know? Jill hadn’t told anyone about her illness. Later, when he visited her hospital room, she handed him a box of half-moons from their favorite bakery. In the middle of the cookies was her photo, looking surprised.
