The White Horse Daydream | One-Hundred-Word Story

When I was first entrusted with leadership, I envisioned a mantle floating down and settling across my shoulders. Next, someone brought me a white horse, and a crowd chanted, “Show us the way, David!” as I rode down the street. I imagined authority as a coronation, but it’s actually a sacrifice. On the leadership road, there’s a price to pay, and the toll is often in your own blood. If you lead, you bleed. True leadership is not only a privileged position, but an exercise in vulnerability. You are ultimately responsible for everyone and everything inside your circle of influence.
